Director, Client Services

POSITION TYPE: Regular Full-time (37.5 hours/week)

SALARY RANGE: $105,484 - $116,627

The Director of Client Services oversees a cluster of programs that offer a wide range of high-quality services including individual, family, and group supports across the developmental spectrum, birth to young adulthood and their care network.  These programs are committed to engagement with and consultation to our local communities.

This portfolio focuses on four broad areas: ensuring seamless, evidence supported services designed to promote the mental health and well-being for young children (0-6) and their families; providing community based mental health interventions for children and their families up to the age of 12; overseeing day treatment programming for elementary children and their families; and supporting the journey of children and youth up to the age of 18, diagnosed with autism, and their families through individual child, family, and school based programming. There is a commitment to leveraging partnerships with local school boards, hospitals, developmental services and child welfare to create accessible pathways to inclusive services and integrated care.

The Director provides clinical program oversight, sets program direction and designs outcome measurements frameworks. As an integral member of Lumenus’ leadership team, this position collaboratively ensures the programs deliver services in accordance with regulatory requirements, Lumenus by-laws and the organization’s mission, vision and values.  The Director also participates in strategic planning for the agency and cultivates new opportunities within the sector.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Strategic direction and planning:

  • Assists in the development of a strategic direction and related goals for client services programs in accordance with Lumenus’ overall strategic direction, goals, and the operating principles of the programs, with the advice and counsel of senior management and in concert with the board
  • Under the auspices of the Strategic Director, client services directors develop, direct, and implement approved strategies and plans that will result in the achievement of the programs’ goals and objectives

 Financial:

  • Assumes accountability for sound financial management and appropriate financial controls for the programs
  • Participates in the preparation of annual budgets in accordance with the needs of Lumenus and in line with funder expectations
  • Monitors and reports on the programs’ finances and engages in the development and implementation of action plans
  • Supports fund raising initiatives as needed

Communication:

  • Utilizes effective communication strategies to facilitate the smooth operation of the programs
  • Communicates the mission, vision, values, and operating principles of the program to employees and other stakeholders 
  • Provides reports and related information as required to the senior management team and other designated organizations
  • Represents Lumenus within the social service sector network 

Operations and Programs:

  • Supervises the managers in client services, providing mentorship and coaching toward skill development
  • Provides clinical oversight of client-based programs
  • Provides operational program oversight in accordance with approved strategic plans and applicable standards and laws including licensing requirements
  • Participates in and/or approves decisions of strategic importance to the programs
  • Ensures coordinated services for clients accessing multiple Lumenus programs
  • Ensures that all programs have outcome data and related evaluation analysis and quality improvement plans in place

Community:

  • Responsible for external program relations ensuring that the voices of clients as well as collaborating professionals are included
  • Supports the delivery of programs where Lumenus has specific partnerships with child welfare, hospitals, school boards, youth justice, and developmental services.
  • Represents the programs by sitting on committees, task forces, and councils to establish relationships with various segments of the community, service agencies and other constituencies
  • Promotes the public relations activities of Lumenus

Human Resources:

  • Develops, communicates and facilitates/encourages an organizational culture conducive to the achievements of Lumenus’ goals and objectives
  • Provides leadership to program managers through team building and motivates employees in managing for high performance
  • Reviews all staffing and placement decisions (hiring, appointment, transfer or termination) for positions in the programs

Other

  • Ensures that agency policies and accreditation standards are met within the client services programs and that changes in policies and procedures are communicated to and adhered by staff
  • Adheres to the organizational health and safety policies and practices along with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

  • Master of Social Work or equivalent education and experience with 10 years or more of directly related leadership experience
  • Membership in the appropriate professional regulated college in order to provide the requisite oversight for the act of psychotherapy (i.e. Social and Social Services Worker, College of Psychotherapy)
  • Experience in research and outcomes management evaluation
  • Minimum five years of clinical experience in counselling or related clinical expertise
  • Minimum five years of experience in a managerial role
  • Proficient in use of MS Office suite of programs

 

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:

  • Expertise in strengths based, systemically oriented, anti-oppressive, culturally responsive and relationally based approaches
  • Well versed in the application of knowledge and practice in client and family centered work, attachment, trauma, neurobiology, family systems as well as experience in single session, cognitive-behavioural, narrative, and behavioural treatments
  • Ability to work in a community-based agency
  • Ability to manage a diverse program structure
  • Ability to make and communicate decisive, complex business, operational or personnel decisions
  • Knowledge of all relevant legislation and regulations
  • Research/evaluation/quality improvement skills
  • Knowledge of data collection and measurable objectives
  • Well-developed research and writing skills
  • Excellent leadership skills that include motivation, delegation, coaching/mentoring, negotiation and conflict resolution, consensus/team building and demonstrated success in human resource management

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Flexible hours, evening work and travel may be required
  • Reliable transportation; valid driver’s license considered an asset
  • Attendance at board and management meetings which may occur off-site and outside of regular hours
  • Satisfactory clearance under the Police Reference Check Program
