Psychotherapist, Service Coordinator (SORNAT)

LOCATION: Toronto, Ontario

POSITION TYPE: This portion of your role will be approximately 1/3 of your caseload.

SORNAT: The Sexual Offending Risk Needs Assessment and Treatment team provides assessment and specialized treatment for youth with mild intellectual disabilities and/or developmental disabilities with significant learning needs. The role would encompass delivering comprehensive sexual offence/behaviour specific assessments, individual treatment, family counselling and service coordination.  The role also includes closely connecting with relevant service providers that might frequently include probation officers and the mental health court service providers.

This unique role is .33% of your current position.  You would maintain most of your current caseload, and one third of your position would comprise of SORNAT clients. We will need to confirm this is possible with your manager, based on program need.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • SORNAT:
    • Complete sexual offence specific assessments and treatment (individual and family)
    • Proficiency to work well with court, probation and legal systems 
    • Exercise a high degree of integrity and sensitivity with working with a highly vulnerable population 
    • Specialize in working with youth with mild intellectual disabilities and unique factors that might lead to the engagement of sexually harmful behaviour 
    • Attend bi-monthly clinical meetings and participate in community outreach work as needed 
  • GENERAL DUTIES:
    • Provide a range of clinical services (individual, parent, family therapy) including goal directed psychotherapy, parent coaching, according to client needs and as required in the position;
    • Assume the intake function with clients and their families, work collaboratively with all involved, complete assessments, set goals and service plans from a systems perspective. 
    • Participate in the carrying out of assessment and outcome measures as required.
    • Work collaboratively with the school, health and child welfare systems to ensure integrated and coordinated service to assigned youth/families;
    • Participate in team meetings, supervision and consultations on a regular basis to provide quality of care;
    • Identify and advocate on behalf of youth and families to address gaps in service;
    • Maintain effective working relationships with the referral sources and other service providers as required.
    • Work collaboratively with a transdisciplinary team delivering intensive services 
    • Engage with collateral professionals who provide consultation including assessments and treatment recommendations (psychiatrists, psychologists, speech and language therapists, occupational therapist) with the adolescent population;

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

  • M.S.W., M.A., or equivalent with at least 2 years of professional experience or combination of education and experience;
  • Registration with the OCSWSSW or CRPO is required.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:

  • Excellent assessment and intervention skills with youth/families and relevant experience providing individual and family therapy to children and/or youth;
  • A solid understanding and clinical experience with the Bio-Psycho-Social Model, as well as clinical evidenced-informed practices such as CBT, SFT, EFT/EFFT, Narrative, DBT, attachment and trauma-informed work;
  • A strength-based philosophy of service provision and a belief in the resiliency of children, youth and families;
  • A capacity to build and nurture working relationships with partner agencies;
  • A self-starter with an ability to work independently, as well as within an established team structure;
  • Solid understanding of the anti-oppressive framework.
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of autism and/or dual diagnosis and the impact on the clients and their families.
  • Knowledge of LGBTQ, racialized, and newcomer communities, and youth with a dual diagnosis (mental health and developmental disability) and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), as well as lived experience of racism, ableism, homophobia, or transphobia are advantageous;
  • Knowledge and experience of trauma and/or sexual offence specific assessments and treatment is an asset 
  • Well-developed computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft applications;

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Satisfactory clearance under the Vulnerable Sector Screening process;
  • Flexibility and ability to travel to work in different office locations, schools, home, community as needed;
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including 2 evenings per week;
  • Fluency in a second language is an asset.
