Lumenus Community Services is looking to hire a Behaviour Technician as part of its Core Clinical Services in Autism Services. As part of the Lumenus Autism team, the Behaviour Technician works directly with children and youth with autism and their families in the implementation of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) under the supervision of a Registered Behaviour Analyst (Ont.).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program preparation:
- Prepare and organize the teaching environment and materials
- Review available information pertaining to children on caseload on a regular basis
- Participate in intake and assessment activities as appropriate
- Individualized Program Implementation
- Provides Behavioural Intervention on a one-to-one or in a group setting as per expectations set by Lumenus guidelines and clinical standards
- Develops an appropriate therapeutic relationship with the child
- Prepares and implements daily activities as per the client’s clinical Program(s)
- Monitors and records client progress using program approved data collection methods and forms
- Follows prescribed programs as written and seeks consultation as needed
- Utilizes sound clinical judgement

Asssess individual client skills, abilities, interests, strengths and needs
- Collects data and evaluate client progress toward program goals
- Prepares written documentation regarding client plans and progress as required
- Collaboration, consultation, and communication
- Collaborate with other team members in the development of behavioural programs and procedures
- Consult with other team members and professionals as required
- Maintain regular communications with parents and family members as required
- Participate in scheduled team meetings and conferences as required
- Present information (both written and oral) sensitively and effectively
- Collaborate with Supervisor regarding programming and child’s progress
- Work within a multidisciplinary team
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
- Diploma/Degree in Behavioural Science Technology or related field
- Sucessful completion of the mandatory/required training; at least 90% in the video evaluation following the provincial IBI training
- Knowledge of childhood development and developmental disabilities, particularly Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Two years’ experience with children with developmental disabilities, particularly Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Knowledge of IBI and ABA
- Strong Communication Skills (both written and verbal)
- Program planning and implementation

- Behaviour management of children
- Ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams and independently
- Knowledge of early childhood development and neurodevelopment variation; understanding of child welfare issues and policies
- Sensitivity to multi-cultural issues
- knowledge of Microsoft Office and excel; knowledge of Boardmaker and Augmentative Devices an asset
- Ability to lift and transfer up to 50 lbs
- Physical demands of the position include, but are not limited to;frequent bending, walking, escorting, engagement in play/sport type activities; regularly sitting on low seats and bending/twisting/reaching, repetitive movements, possibly in awkward positions, based on individual circumstances, may be required to physically move a child, to move/run quickly and/or respond safely from a standing, sitting, kneeling, etc. position. Degree of attention, focus and vigilance; directed and engaged despite possible intrusive factors (e.g ongoing distractions/noise, upset of children, observation). Degree of sensitivity, thoughtfulness and care to child(ren)’s vulnerabilities and needs; anticipation, prevention and management of harm and/or crisis situations; to make quick and sound judgements regarding risk and/or safety
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Access to reliable transportation to travel to various work sites within the GTA
- Able to work in-person, across sites, and flexible for evenings/weekends (e.g. Tuesday to Saturday schedule)
